9th Annual Day of Caring – Great Success!

The Matagorda County United Way held its 9th Annual Day of Caring on April 7. One-hundred fifty (150) volunteers participated in the community-wide event. Teams gathered at the Bay City Service Center to enjoy a light breakfast and get work assignments, tools and materials and then proceeded to projects located throughout Matagorda County to make minor home repairs, build wheelchair ramps, work on lawns and gardens, help with spring cleaning and tackle other odd jobs for seniors and people with disabilities.
Field Representative, Carol Wootten from State Representative Dennis Bonnen’s office, attended on Bonnen’s behalf to thank volunteers for their community service. County Judge Nate McDonald, Bay City Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture Executive Director, Mitch McDonald, City Councilperson Carolyn Thames and Matagorda County United Way Board Vice Chair Helen Mary Nelson also welcomed volunteers and commended them for helping make a difference in the community. The event is an annual service project that epitomizes the value of working together for the common good and gives true meaning to the United Way slogan, “LIVE UNITED.”
